A historical walk based on a book was a novel experience for Mumbaikars and they joined in with much gusto.

The walk retraced the early life and extraordinary rise of Tatyasaheb, a Marathi manoos who journeyed from the modest confines of a Girgaon chawl to a prestigious Pedder Road mansion. Tejaswini Apte-Rahm, who led the walk along with Khaki Tours,  brought alive the socio-cultural landscape of late-19th and early-20th-century Bombay. Participants stopped at key sites connected to his formative years, listened to stories of his entrepreneurial grit, and explored lesser-known slices of the city’s commercial and community history.

The walk concluded with an engaging conversation at the Girgaum Kitchen  where the author discussed her research, archival explorations and the process of reconstructing a forgotten Bombay through one man’s remarkable story.

The event also included copies of the book for all the participants, so that the stories remained with them even after the walk was over.
