Chandigarh, Aug 14: Anil Agarwal, Chairman, Vedanta Ltd. has welcomed Parliament’s passage of the Mines and Minerals Amendment Bill, 2026, which seeks to facilitate greater exploration and development of India’s critical and strategic mineral resources.
In a social media post, Mr. Agarwal congratulated the Government on the passage of the amendment and highlighted its potential to strengthen the mining sector and contribute to India’s economic ambitions.
He said:
“Congratulations to the Government on the passing of the amendment to the Mining Law, MMDR Act. As we all know, India has tremendous potential in below-the-ground resources. And the Government is focusing on harnessing that potential. The changes to the law will greatly improve ease of doing business. This will help raise production, create massive jobs and promote self-sufficiency.”
The amendments are aimed at making the regulatory framework more conducive to mineral exploration and development, including by providing mining lease holders greater flexibility to seek the inclusion of additional minerals in existing leases.
With critical minerals becoming increasingly important to manufacturing, energy transition and resilient supply chains, a more enabling mining framework can help India translate its geological potential into greater domestic resource availability and reduce dependence on imports.
The reform therefore comes at an important juncture as India seeks to strengthen its resource security and build a more self-reliant economy.
