Ahmedabad, Aug 21: Ahead of Raksha Bandhan, more than 10,000 women in Gujarat are preparing rakhis and postcards to send to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, turning the traditional festival into a collective expression of warmth and goodwill.
The women are creating rakhis and writing personal messages as part of the initiative, adding a personal and community-driven touch to this year’s celebrations.
The effort reflects the enduring cultural importance of Raksha Bandhan, a festival traditionally associated with affection, care and the bond between siblings. In 2026, Raksha Bandhan will be celebrated on August 28.
Beyond the customary exchange of rakhis, such community initiatives provide people with an opportunity to participate in the festive spirit through creativity and personal expression. Handmade rakhis and handwritten postcards also preserve the warmth of traditional ways of celebrating festivals at a time when communication is increasingly digital.
The participation of thousands of women from Gujarat adds a strong community dimension to the celebrations and highlights how festivals continue to bring people together through shared cultural traditions.
The initiative comes amid a wider festive atmosphere across the country, with handmade and creatively designed rakhis gaining attention ahead of Raksha Bandhan
