Sanchar Saathi, launched by the Department of Telecommunications, is designed to improve mobile security and protect users from the misuse of telecom services. The platform provides several tools that allow citizens to report lost or stolen phones, block devices, check mobile connections registered in their name and report suspected fraudulent communications.
One of the key objectives of the app is to help people quickly report lost or stolen mobile phones and prevent unauthorised use of the devices. Through the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) system, users can request that a lost or stolen handset be blocked from telecom networks and can also track its recovery status.
The app also aims to help citizens identify mobile connections issued in their name. This can be useful in detecting unknown or unauthorised connections and taking timely action.
Another important objective is to strengthen protection against telecom-related fraud. Users can report suspicious calls, SMS messages and other communications, helping authorities and telecom operators take appropriate action.
For ordinary users, Sanchar Saathi can be particularly helpful because mobile phones now contain personal photographs, contacts, messages, financial information and access to various online accounts. Reporting a lost or stolen phone quickly can therefore reduce the chances of misuse.
The growing number of recoveries also highlights the importance of public awareness. People who lose their phones should report the incident to the police and use the Sanchar Saathi platform to block the device and support the recovery process.
