Mangaluru Belagavi, Feb 6: On the occasion of the Indian Green Building Council hosting the Green Karnataka Summit 2026 at Hotel Shangri-La, Bengaluru, IGBC’s regional chapters in Mysuru, Mangaluru, and Belagavi highlighted their pivotal role in accelerating Karnataka’s green building movement and climate-resilient urban transformation.

Karnataka today stands as one of India’s leading green building states, with 1,539 IGBC-registered projects covering 1.13 billion sq ft of green building footprint, spanning residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, infrastructure, and public-sector developments. This scale of adoption reflects a decisive shift from intent to implementation, positioning sustainability as a core driver of urban liveability, resource security, and long-term economic growth—aligned with the Summit theme, “Advancing Sustainability vis-à-vis Climate Resilience in Urban Built Karnataka.”
Advancing Net Zero and Climate-Responsive Development
IGBC Karnataka Chapters are playing a catalytic role in advancing Net Zero and low-carbon pathways, with over 119 projects integrating on-site renewable energy, high-performance envelopes, efficient building systems, and smart energy management solutions. These projects demonstrate how IGBC rating frameworks are enabling real-world reductions in energy demand, water consumption, and carbon emissions across diverse climatic and urban contexts in the state.
Through continuous capacity-building programmes, technical workshops, and certification-led handholding, the chapters are strengthening regional readiness for Net Zero Buildings, Green Factories, and Climate-Resilient Infrastructure, supporting Karnataka’s broader sustainability and climate action goals.
Mysuru: Regional Leadership through Scalable Green Models
The IGBC Mysuru Chapter has certified projects covering 7.535 million sq ft, including landmark developments such as Jal Bhavan (Karnataka Urban Water Supply), Infosys Campus, ITC Consumer Goods Manufacturing Facility, Prestige City Centre Mall, SIDBI and HDFC Bank branches, Club Mahindra Resort Coorg, Foundations Silver Spring, State Bank Institute of Learning and Development, Avani, and Lahari Srigandha.
These projects exemplify integrated green strategies solar energy adoption, rainwater harvesting, efficient water management, passive design, and certified green materials creating replicable models for mid-sized cities transitioning toward low-carbon, climate-resilient urban futures.
“Mysuru exemplifies how regional cities can deliver measurable sustainability outcomes—through Net Zero innovations, water stewardship, and resilient urban design setting the foundation for collaborative climate action across Karnataka,”
Mr. Vinod Maroli, Chairman, IGBC Mysuru Chapter.
Mangaluru: Coastal-Resilient and Resource-Efficient Development
The IGBC Mangaluru Chapter accounts for multiple projects spanning 4.678 million sq ft, including Raheja Waterfront, Prestige Fiza Mall, DMart Udupi, Canara Institute of Bank Management (Udupi), Infosys Mangaluru Campus, and Urvi Residential Project.
With a strong focus on coastal resilience, waste management, durable materials, and renewable energy integration, these projects address the unique environmental challenges of Karnataka’s coastal belt, demonstrating how sustainability and resilience can be embedded into high-growth urban and mixed-use developments.
“Mangaluru’s experience shows how climate-responsive design and green construction practices can strengthen coastal cities while supporting Karnataka’s statewide sustainability agenda,” said Ar. Venkatesh Pai, Chairman, IGBC Mangaluru Chapter.
Belagavi: Driving Green Industrial Transformation
The IGBC Belagavi Chapter has facilitated multiple projects covering 2.947 million sq ft, including Rail Soudha (Southwestern Railway, Hubballi), KPCL Office Building, and Gold Plus Float Glass Pvt. Ltd. factory.
These projects highlight the growing adoption of energy-efficient industrial buildings, resource conservation measures, precast construction, and waste-minimization techniques, reinforcing the role of green factories and industrial hubs in Karnataka’s Net Zero and decarbonization journey.
“Belagavi’s progress demonstrates that industrial regions can be at the forefront of green construction and Net Zero transitions, contributing meaningfully to Karnataka’s climate-resilient growth,”
Mr. Chaitanya Kulkarni, Chairman, IGBC Belagavi Chapter.
Building Future-Ready Cities Across Karnataka
Collectively, IGBC Karnataka Chapters are shaping future-ready cities by embedding green principles into urban expansion, infrastructure development, and industrial growth. From pedestrian-friendly planning and native landscaping to water-positive and low-carbon developments, these projects offer scalable blueprints for sustainable urbanization across Karnataka.
At the Green Karnataka Summit 2026, the chapters’ contributions underscored IGBC’s role as a key enabler—bringing together government, industry, developers, and the design community to translate sustainability commitments into on-ground impact at scale.
