Porvorim, Mar 10: The Department of Tourism, Goa, has announced a strengthened enforcement drive to maintain discipline and public decorum on the state’s beaches following reports of unruly behaviour by some visitors, particularly towards foreign tourists.

Hon’ble Tourism Minister Shri Rohan A. Khaunte stated that while Goa continues to welcome tourists from across India and the world, irresponsible actions that inconvenience others or disrupt the peaceful environment will not be tolerated. Recent observations highlighted instances where certain visitors approached foreign tourists for selfies or engaged in behaviour that disturbed the serene beach environment.
“I have discussed this matter with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and measures are being implemented to enhance enforcement. Additional police personnel will be deployed on beaches through the Tourism Police Unit (TPU) in coordination with local police stations. Continuous monitoring and action, including arrests when necessary, will be undertaken to ensure discipline,” said Minister Khaunte.
The Minister emphasized that Goa’s reputation as a responsible and welcoming tourism destination must be preserved.
“Goa welcomes every visitor with warmth and hospitality, but this cannot be mistaken for leniency. Any behaviour that disrespects fellow tourists, inconveniences visitors, or disrupts public order will invite strict action. Our commitment is to ensure that beaches remain safe, respectful, and enjoyable for everyone,” he added.
To further strengthen safety and security, the government has instructed authorities to increase the presence of women constables within the Tourism Police Unit at key tourist areas. These measures aim to provide enhanced security, promote responsible behaviour, and ensure a safe environment for all visitors.
The Department of Tourism reiterated its message that Goa remains committed to safeguarding the dignity of both locals and international tourists. Visitors have been urged to enjoy the destination responsibly, respect local laws and culture, and maintain courtesy towards fellow travellers.
