Deoleo advances its recycled plastic goal by five years and increases the volume of its sustainable EVOO to 36 percent

Mumbai, May 6: Deoleo, the world’s leading olive oil company, has unveiled its 2025 Sustainability Report, highlighting significant progress across environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals, including accelerating its recycled plastic targets and expanding sustainable product volumes.

Deoleo advances its recycled plastic goal by five years and increases the volume of its sustainable EVOO to 36 percent

The company has successfully incorporated 40% recycled plastic (rPET) into its packaging—achieving its 2030 target five years ahead of schedule—while increasing the share of recyclable bottles to 79%. Additionally, 36% of its Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) volume now comes from sustainable mills, reflecting steady progress in responsible sourcing.

A key highlight of the report is the company’s decarbonisation efforts. Deoleo has reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by over 30% since 2022, avoiding 135,270 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. Its industrial operations are now powered by 98% renewable energy, reinforcing its commitment to climate action.

The company’s circular economy initiatives extend to key markets like India, where it has managed 370 metric tonnes of PET waste, including significant volumes of recycling and co-processing. These efforts have contributed to measurable environmental savings in water, energy, and landfill reduction.

Cristóbal Valdés, CEO of Deoleo, stated that the company’s progress reflects a strong commitment to combining economic growth with positive environmental and social impact, while enhancing transparency and product value.

The Sustainability Protocol remains central to the company’s strategy, with 95 mills now certified globally and over 61,000 farmers engaged across nearly 350,000 hectares of olive groves. This collaboration has enabled better resource management, emissions tracking, and sustainable agricultural practices.

On the consumer front, Deoleo continues to innovate through brands such as Bertolli, Carbonell, Carapelli, and Figaro, introducing formats like spray packaging and precision-use containers to encourage healthier consumption habits.

Transparency remains a cornerstone of its governance approach, with digital traceability powered by QR codes now covering 51 product references. This allows consumers to access detailed information about product origin, enhancing trust and informed decision-making.

With continued focus on circularity, decarbonisation, and transparency, Deoleo is positioning itself at the forefront of sustainable transformation in the global food industry.
